The content on Save Your Knees is provided for general informational and educational purposes only. It is not medical advice, and it is not a substitute for professional diagnosis, treatment, or care from a qualified healthcare provider or orthopaedic surgical team.

Not medical advice

Nothing on this site should be taken as a recommendation for or against any procedure, surgeon, hospital, or implant for you specifically, nor as a verdict on whether you should have a total or a partial knee replacement. That decision depends on your X-rays, your ligaments, your other joints, and your goals, and belongs with your own surgeon, who knows your full medical history.

Personal experience is not guidance

Much of this site describes one patient’s experience of knee replacement and recovery. Every patient, knee, operation, and recovery is different. The pace at which someone regains their range of movement, how much pain they have, and how the joint ends up feeling all vary widely. Personal accounts here are shared for support and realistic expectation, not as instructions or a benchmark you must hit.

Exercises and rehabilitation

We describe the kind of physiotherapy and exercises common after knee replacement to help you understand the journey. They are not a prescribed programme. Your own physiotherapist and surgical team set your exercises, your weight-bearing status, and your progression based on the specifics of your surgery. Follow their instructions over anything you read here.

No doctor and patient relationship

Reading this site, or contacting us, does not create a doctor and patient relationship. Our reviewer checks articles for general accuracy; they are not your treating clinician and cannot advise on your individual case.

When to seek urgent help

Knee replacement carries real risks, including infection and blood clots. If you develop a hot, increasingly painful or leaking wound, a fever, or a swollen, painful calf, or if you become breathless or have chest pain, do not wait and do not rely on this site. Contact your surgical team or your local emergency number immediately.

Always consult a professional

Always seek the advice of your physician or another qualified health provider with any questions about a medical condition or procedure, and never disregard professional advice because of information on this site.
